ABOUT HANNAH
Hannah is a freelance artist, experienced art teacher and community workshop leader in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Hannah’s MA research into the physical and emotional benefits of using clay is the motivation for her creative practice. She creates individual, bespoke ceramic pieces that are handcrafted with care.
“Working with clay is my therapeutic outlet, my mind calms as I mould and converse with the clay. I don’t decide on my own how a piece will form, it is a balance between myself as the maker and the clay itself.
Much love and attention goes into my work. For me, the process of making, moulding and sculpting is my motivating force, and the outcome is a welcome addition.”
Hannah is a passionate advocate for using clay to enhance health and well-being, reduce stress and anxiety and improve mental health. She facilitates this through community projects, mindfulness clay workshops, small groups and also one to one sessions.
As a qualified educator, and MA graduate, Hannah can provide high quality workshops and well-being sessions to community groups and educational settings, including homeschooling groups. These can be whole classes, small groups and staff well-being days.

HANNAH'S WORK
Hannah creates unique art pieces that replicate the textures in nature and our environment, which take inspiration from the local walks around Yorkshire. She predominantly works in porcelain. This includes works thrown at a wheel, hand building and slip casting.
Whilst Hannah has developed a range of glazes to complement and add contrast, her most recent work explores the textures she can create into the porcelain, opting for no glaze.

“I take close up photographs of trees and points of interest and attempt to replicate their beauty into my work by creating textures within my ceramics. No pieces are the same."

Hannah’s deep appreciation for the natural world is at the heart of her artistic practice. Inspired by the beauty of British flora and the landscapes around her, she captures the essence of nature through a variety of visual art mediums. “Long walks with my family and friends in the Yorkshire countryside and visits to local RHS Harlow Carr inspires most of my artistic practice. That and a really strong desire to keep exploring and playing!”.
Her passion for painting and drawing and print-making began at a young age, sparked by her grandmother, “ My grandma gave me my very first, and still very much favourite, vintage Winsor & Newton paint palette when I was a young girl. I would spend hours painting in the garden, it’s one of my favourite early memories”.
Today, Hannah enjoys exploring a wide range of artistic styles and techniques, often returning to the delicate details of hedgerows and wild plant life as well as exploring her true love of abstract painting. Her studies of the natural environment have been featured in exhibitions, including at the ‘inspired by’ gallery at Danby Lodge National Park Centre in the North York Moors.
Alongside her personal work, Hannah shares her passion for creativity through art workshops in schools and community settings—bringing art and nature together in meaningful and inspiring ways.
